Huey Percy Newton was born February 17, 1942. Mr. Newton founded the Black Panther Party (BPP) in Oakland, California in 1966. The BPP organization advocated the use of guns and guerrilla tactics by African Americans to protect themselves and to bring about the overthrow of the United States Government. Allegations were made that Mr. Newton extorted money from businesses operating in the Oakland - Berkeley, California area.
