OGP Facilitates Agency and Industry Response on Federal ID Credentials

Over 90 representatives of agencies and industry partners of the government Smart Card Interagency Advisory Board (IAB) met in mid-November to develop technical recommendations for NIST Special Publication 800-73 and Federal Information Processing Standard 210 (FIPS 201). The draft for comment was released November 8th. This is the response to the Homeland Security Policy Directive (HSPD) 12, personal identity verification for employees and contractor to access federal building and information systems sets aggressive dates for the standard to be completed and agencies to implement. When approved, FIPS 201 will serve as the basis for the new ID credentials. For further information, contact John Moore at johng.moore@gsa.gov.
