Atlanta - National service and volunteer programs across the nation will have access to a wealth of free resources to help them meet local needs and strengthen communities thanks to a new Resource Center website launched today by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
More than 2,500 free downloadable tools and e-courses are available through the new site, located at www.nationalservice.gov/Resources. Using cutting edge technology, the Resource Center is a fully accessible and dynamic web 2.0-based clearinghouse that contains a wide range of publications, tip sheets, web links, toolkits, widgets, and other resources to strengthen national service and volunteer programs.
The website was launched at the 2008 National Conference on Volunteering and Service in order to introduce the conference’s 4,500 leaders from around the United States to the website and encourage its use nationally.
“Never has the need been greater – and the support stronger – for America’s national service and volunteer programs,” said Gretchen Van der Veer, Director of the Office of Leadership and Training for the Corporation. “We are delighted to offer this outstanding website that is brimming with helpful tools and resources to help the organizations that are on the frontlines tackling America’s toughest problems.”
The Resource Center’s content is generated by a network of training and technical assistance providers and experts, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, to serve the needs of Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve programs as well as other nonprofit and community groups that use volunteers to meet local needs.
Sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered by ETR Associates, the website makes it easier than ever to find resources that will help national service or volunteer programs thrive. Features include:
- The Effective Practices Collection, now 800 effective practices strong, more than 30 online courses available through the Online Learning Center, and a lending library that offers thousands of books, videos, CD-ROMs, and toolkits.
- Go directly to hand-picked resources on a particular topic using the “Browse” feature - then click through to see ALL resources tagged with that topic.
- Enjoy search results conveniently classified by resource type for easy access and retrieval.
- Take advantage of RSS feeds that bring live, up-to-date news directly from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
- Access short tip sheets and podcasts on important service and management topics from the “Grab and Go” section.
- Consult a Pro — get advice from featured consultants and training and technical assistance providers
Among the website’s tools is the ability to easily access content using extensive tagging and cataloguing. Through the “search”, “browse”, “select”, and “connect” functions, users will be able to quickly retrieve all of the website’s online content including training tools, event calendars, and a catalogue of printed publications and videos available on loan.
