The National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research collects and analyzes data on severe high school and college sports injuries--those resulting in death or permanent severe functional disability. The Center prepares annual reports in three areas: football fatalities; permanent paralyzing injuries from football; and catastrophic injuries in all other sports. The purpose of the research and analysis is to recommend rule changes, safer coaching techniques, and improved equipment.
