Abstract

The National Safety Management Society, begun in 1966, is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of new concepts of accident prevention and loss control, promoting and integrating the role of safety management in the total management effort. Through research and education, the Society seeks to expand and promote the role of safety management in terms of cost/benefit returns and humanitarian considerations. This is a membership society that is open to anyone with managerial, supervisory, or program responsibilities relating to safety. The organization also participates with the Institute for Safety and Health Management (an offshoot of NSMS) in offering a certification program, "Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) and the associate safety and health manager.
