Abstract

Established in 1896, the mission of this international, nonprofit, member organization is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by developing and advocating scientifically based consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. NFPA's educational activities are focused on motivating and enabling the public to be safer. Fire Prevention Week, which NFPA has sponsored for nearly 80 years, represents the association's largest annual public safety campaign. For safety professionals (and the general public) NFPA sponsors seminars and workshops on the application of its codes and standards as well as state-of-the-art fire protection technology and electrical safety.

Publications

NFPA publishes codes and standards, handbooks, reference books, textbooks, field guides, curricula, and training and public education materials. Most resources are available through the web site. Serial publications include: NFPA Journal (bimonthly magazine for members), Fire Technology (quarterly research periodical); NFPA Update and NFPA News (bimonthly electronic bulletins), and NEC Digest (bimonthly magazine).
