Scholar Spotlight:

Melissa Johnson

Manhattanville College '09

Sponsor: Unilever

Major: International Studies

Melissa Johnson, a senior attending Manhattanville College, witnessed history this summer. As one of 8 JRF scholars chosen to work as an intern with NBC News, Mellssa spent the last weeks of her summer in Denver at the Democratic convention. An International Studies major, with a focus in Political and Economic Relations, the opportunity to watch the political process first hand was extraordinary. Yet "extraordinary" is also a word to describe Melissa who is studying Chinese and Creative Writing. With a 3.9 grade point average, Melissa stays connected to several community service projects. Her focus in her junior year was the environment where she's learned to ignite environmental awareness in her community. Melissa's goal is to travel abroad to further her understanding of the global economy and to increase her foreign language fluency as well.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation now has joined over 50 single-sport Halls of Fame, National Governing Bodies, Museums and other sports organizations across North America as a Founding Sports Partner of the Sports Museum of America (SmA), www.sportsmuseum.com.  SmA is proud to donate a portion of all ticket sales to the foundation and their scholars.  SmA is the Nation's first and only museum to celebrate all sports under one roof.  Filled with state-of-the-art interactives, original films and an awe-inspiring collection of memorabilia, SmA richly showcases the history, grandeur and significance of sports in American culture through great sports' stories of courage, education and triumph. SmA is located in New York City at 26 Broadway (next to the “Charging Bull” and footsteps from the Statue of Liberty Ferry).
