Facility Security

The Office of Health, Safety and Security is responsible for managing security operations for Energy facilities in the national capitol area and has additional responsibility for responsible management of the Energy Safeguards and Security Technology Development Program as well as development of policies designed to protect national security and other critical assets entrusted to the Department of Energy.

When questions arise concerning whether an employee is qualified for a security clearance, and those questionscannot be resolved favorably based upon an investigation, that employee may request a hearing before a Hearing Officer with the Office of Hearings and Appeals. These hearings permit the employee and Energy to submit additional documentary evidence and present lay and expert testimony under oath.
