The USGS Library maintains an active publications exchange program with national and international institutions as part of its acquisition strategy. The exchange partners include U.S. and foreign geological surveys, agencies of foreign governments at the national and local level, institutions of higher learning, international organizations, academies, libraries, and scientific institutes.

The Exchange Program has changed significantly since the advent of electronic publishing. All current USGS publications are now available online, and many are available online-only. The USGS Publications Warehouse provides access to current online publications at the following URL: http://infotrek.er.usgs.gov/pubs/.
