Southern Leaders Celebrate Centennial

Nashville, Tennessee - March 8, 2005 – The Fiddlin’ Foresters participated in the Southern Region Centennial line officers meeting on March 8. Regional Forester Bob Jacobs hosted the celebration of Rangers, Forest Supervisors and others from the 13 southern states and the regional office in Atlanta.

The conference provided opportunities to celebrate and honor the past, look forward and plan for the future, and to enhance leadership skills to help shape issues, and meet challenges of the day. It was also a time to renew old acquaintances, make new ones and share experiences.

The Fiddlin’ Foresters program provided a look to the past and presented challenges for the future. Through music and narration they told the audience that they will be judged by how effective they address the four challenges ahead – Unmanaged recreation, invasive species, loss of open space, and fire and fuels.

Ranger Doug from the famous cowboy band, Riders in the Sky, paid a surprise visit to the performance. He was heard to say, “The Fiddlin’ Foresters are one government program that I don’t mind paying taxes for.”
