Federal Maritime Commission Announces the Selection of Peter J. King as Acting General Counsel

The Federal Maritime Commission today announced the selection of Peter J. King as its Acting General Counsel, effective February 16, 2008.
Mr. King has served as Director in the Office of Administration and has been a member of the agency's Senior Executive Service since April 2007. Immediately prior to being designated Director, he served as Acting Director of that Office.
Mr. King joined the Commission in 1987 as a Trial Attorney in the Commission's Bureau of Enforcement, and later became that Bureau's Deputy Director. He also served as Deputy Director of the Commission's Bureau of Certification and Licensing. Mr. King began his career as an associate attorney with the law firm of Hoppel Mayer & Coleman in
Washington D.C., practicing in the areas of transportation, vessel financing and customs law.
Mr. King is a lifelong resident of Maryland; he is a graduate of the Catholic University of America and the
National
Law
Center,
George
Washington
University. From 1991-2003, Mr. King concurrently served as an elected Councilman to the City of College Park, Maryland. He is a past member of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and a past voting member of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. He continues to reside in
College Park with his wife Mary and their six children.
In appointing Mr. King as Acting General Counsel, the Commission recognizes his many years of experience and dedication to the Commission as well as his recent appointment to the Senior Executive Service. The Commissioners look forward to working with him in the future and are confident that he will affirmatively contribute to the agency's relationship with the ocean shipping industry, Congress and other federal agencies.
