Savannah River Nuclear Solutions
to Assume Responsibility at SRS

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS) has assumed management and operations responsibility at the Savannah River Site, after a 90-day transition period and a procurement process that began nearly three years ago.

SRNS accepted turnover at midnight July 31 after completing all readiness reviews and signing transfer agreements with the Department of Energy (DOE) and outgoing contractor Washington Savannah River Company (WSRC).

“This culminates a process that lasted several years,” says Jeff Allison, manager, DOE-Savannah River.  “It was an intense transition, and we are satisfied that SRNS is ready to assume operations.  We have every confidence that they will very capably lead SRS into the future.”

Allison recognized the hard work by all members of the transition team, from all three organizations.  “Good teamwork has made this transition a success,” he says.  “I appreciate the willingness and ability SRNS and WSRC employees have shown to work together for the good of this site.”

SRNS President and CEO Chuck Munns says his leadership team is excited about the challenge and opportunity before them. “We’re proud and happy to take over management and operations of one of DOE’s finest facilities.  We’ve worked hard to get to this point, but we recognize that our work is only beginning.  We’ve all been tremendously impressed as we have walked around facilities and gotten to know the people.  Everything we’ve seen has reinforced our belief that this site is a national asset. We are proud to have the opportunity to serve here.”

SRNS is led by Fluor Daniel, with partners Northrop Grumman and Honeywell.  Also members of the team are subcontractors Lockheed Martin and Nuclear Fuel Services.
