Engineering test model of Surveyor 1, the first in a series of seven soft-landing lunar spacecraft designed and built by Hughes Aircraft Company. The spacecraft successfully landed on the surface of the moon on June 1, 1966, near Flamsteed Crater on the western edge of the Ocean of Storms.
