NIJ Expert Systems Testbed Project

The NIJ Expert Systems Testbed (NEST) Project will evaluate commercially available expert systems designed for use by forensic DNA laboratories. The project initially will focus on the automated analysis of DNA profiles from single-source samples for the eventual upload into the National DNA Index System (NDIS). Expert systems could easily be one of the most important advances for the forensic DNA databanking community since the development of higher throughput instrumentation and single amplification multiplex chemistry.

Marshall University Forensic Science Center (MUFSC) will host the evaluation of three commercially available expert systems and will provide free demonstrations to State and local forensic DNA crime laboratory personnel. See the MUFSC Web site for more information about this exciting project.
