Computational Statistics with MATLAB

Zhiping You
The MathWorks, Inc.

Different from traditional statistics, computational statistics focus on the exploitation of computing in the creation of new statistical methodology. The modern computer revolution enables scientists and engineers to store and process massive amounts of data (very large and high dimensional), where traditional statistics are inadequate to deal with. The talk will briefly go over some topics such as Random variable generating, Monte Carlo Methods, and Probability Density estimation. It will go into more MATLAB program detail in one subject, Cluster analysis, as an example of how MATLAB works.
