ATLANTA -- Gei Thae Breezley has been appointed area director for OSHA's Atlanta-East area office, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced today. Prior to his selection he served as the area director in St. Louis, Mo.

In 1977, Breezley began his OSHA career as a compliance safety and health officer trainee assigned to the Macon, Ga., area office, which closed in 1984. He has held positions in both the Atlanta and Savannah area offices, serving as a senior compliance officer, a district manager and an assistant area director.

In early 1990, he was selected for a national management team dedicated to improving the quality of OSHA's services to employers and employees, and assisting in the development of several innovative safety and health programs. In January 1999, he assumed his duties as the St. Louis OSHA area director.

"G.T. is recognized throughout the agency for his managerial and problem-solving skills," said Cindy Coe, OSHA's regional administrator in Atlanta. "One of his first priorities will be finding an effective way to reduce the number of workplace fatalities in the Atlanta area, particularly in the construction industry."

Breezley earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University.

As the Atlanta-East area director, Breezley will be responsible for administering the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act in the 56 counties of northeast Georgia.
