The primary goal of the Education Plan for the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Laboratory is to promote the educational value and
significance of the scientific research performed within the Laboratory and its associated branches while supporting the Earth-Sun Exploration
Division's education initiatives and objectives. The educational value of this science is based upon its implementation within the constructs
of the public sector, principally; primary, secondary, and higher education classrooms and curriculums. This science shall not only provide
tools for the instructor, but shall also benefit the students by developing a foundation for future research in the hydrospheric
and biospheric sciences.
Brian Campbell is the Education Lead for the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Laboratory. He will gladly
accept all Education and Outreach questions regarding the Lab.

This poster was created as "proof of results" from a 2002-2003 DDF proposed project. The project was lead by
Tiffany A. Moisan, of the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Laboratory's Instrumentation Sciences Branch at the Wallops
Flight Facility in Wallops Island, Virginia and Brian A. Campbell of SAIC at the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Laboratory in Greenbelt, Maryland.

This program is designed to introduce undergraduate students majoring in all areas of the physical sciences to research
opportunities in the atmospheric, hydrospheric, and terrestrial sciences, both theoretical and experimental. No previous
experience in these sciences is needed. The program is directed primarily at undergraduates who are in their Junior year
at the time of application. However, all undergraduates, who are currently enrolled in a U.S. college or university, are
eligible, provided they are also U.S. Citizens or holders of a Green Card indicating their intention of becoming a citizen.

Our new Coastal Observations web site is a new and improved version of the former Foundations of Phytoplankton web site. The Coastal Observations site contains information on the cutting-edge coastal oceans science, instrumentation, and education being performed at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the NASA Wallops Flight Facility. This web site has stemmed from a NASA/NOAA partnership in oceanography research and education program called the CoastalObs Project. Scientists from NASA, NOAA, and a multitude of academic and research institutions have played a vital role in its development. One major part of the new web site is an online oceanographic education journal called “Rising Tides”. This is a collection of new research articles, education lessons and activities, and much more.
