Status of MCC Programs in Georgia

The U.S. Government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has been implementing a five-year, $295 million poverty-reduction program in Georgia since April 2006 dedicated to vital infrastructure rehabilitation. The program is improving basic access to services and markets for hundreds of thousands of Georgians. MCC's Washington headquarters is in uninterrupted contact with its representatives in Georgia, all of whom are coordinating with the U.S. Embassy in continually monitoring the situation. All MCC personnel are safe and accounted for and remain in Georgia.
Implementation of the MCC program in Georgia, comprised of road rehabilitation, agribusiness, regional development, municipal infrastructure, and energy projects, remains underway. MCC will continue to monitor the situation on the ground together with other U.S. Government agencies. MCC does not manage programs in the South Ossetia or Abkhazia regions.
About the MCC Program in Georgia: The five-year, $295 million Millennium Challenge compact with Georgia is designed to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth in the regions outside of Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, where more than 50 percent of rural households live below the poverty line.
