MCC and Aid Effectiveness

The Millennium Challenge Account, of which the MCC acts as steward, addresses a number of principles stated in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Those principles include:

  • Country ownership
  • Results
  • Mutual accountability
  • Harmonization
  • Alignment

The issue briefs and case studies (listed on the right) provide background on how MCC relates to the Paris Declaration and examples of how it is striving to improve ownership, alignment, harmonization, results and mutual accountability.

The Paris Declaration

In 2005, the United States and over 100 other donors, partner governments, and institutions endorsed the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.  The Paris Declaration calls upon signatories to meet 56 different partnership commitments to further aid effectiveness around the principles of ownership, alignment, harmonization, results, and mutual accountability.

Paris Declaration Follow-Up Forum

Three years after the adoption of the Paris Declaration, donors and partner countries will meet September 2–4, 2008 at a High-Level Forum (HLF) on Aid Effectiveness in Accra, Ghana.  The meeting will examine how far the international community has come, how far it has to go to meet objectives set for 2010, and what we have learned and encountered in the process.
