Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing Competitiveness (IWG-MC)

The Manufacturing Report recommended the creation of the Interagency Working Group Manufacturing Competitiveness (IWGMC) to coordinate the implementation of the recommendations from the ‘ Manufacturing in America’ report, discuss competitiveness issues, and develop new initiatives that will carry the Manufacturing Initiative forward.  Many of the issues affecting manufacturing cut across various Federal Agencies.  This interagency coordination is vital to creating a favorable environment and level playing field for U.S. manufacturers.

The Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing and Services is the official chair of the IWGMC with members from more than 17 participating Federal agencies, including the Department of Commerce:

Department of State Department of Energy
Department of the Treasury Department of Education
Department of Defense Department of Homeland Security
Department of Justice Environmental Protection Agency
Department of Agriculture Office of Management and Budget
Department of Labor United States Trade Representative
Department of Health and Human Services Small Business Administration
Department of Transportation Export-Import Bank

To further pursue the IWGMC goals, Project teams were established to focus on key manufacturing issues. These projects include:

  • Improvements to Regulatory Economic Impact Analysis
  • Workforce Development
  • Strengthening Technology Transfer
