Coastal HydroWatch:
Ground- and Surface-Water Monitoring for Coastal Georgia

Coastal HydroWatch is part of a statewide network of hydrologic gaging stations and ground-water wells collecting water levels, precipitation, wind, and water-quality data. The network includes satellite and modem telemetry to relay data to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and its cooperators, the media, and the general public using various means, including the Internet.

Why is hydrologic monitoring important?

Management of water resources:
  • How much water is available for supply?
  • What is the quality of the available water?
Monitoring hydrologic hazards
  • Floods
  • Droughts
