American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) Best-Practice Partner

Grants.gov was selected as a Best-Practice Partner by the American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) for its efforts in realizing organizational change while institutionalizing a new federal grant management approach. The Grants.gov system resulted in significant policy, operational, and technological best practices for successful adoption and process improvement.

APQC, an internationally recognized not-for-profit organization, provides expertise in benchmarking and best practices research. As one of five selected Best-Practice Partners, from a pool of over 100 entries including top organizations such as Fuji Xerox, Microsoft and Siemens Business Services, Grants.gov will be showcased with American Express, FedEx, Graybar Electric and IBM at a “Knowledge Transfer Session” to develop a best-practice framework and case study of successful organization change.

8th Annual Process Innovation Award
Awarded: October 29, 2004

The Kinetic Information Process Innovation Award was created in 1996 to honor superior applications for their business effectiveness and is presented to organizations that have implemented applications that are returning significant business benefit. Winners are selected based on process improvements that led to gains in areas of productivity, profitability, and the ability to adapt to market conditions.

Grants.gov was awarded a Process Improvement Award for their implementation of PureEdge e-forms technology. These e-forms connect the 26 federal grant-making agencies to a central website powered by an e-forms solution allowing all grant applications to be found and submitted online. Through PureEdge’s e-filing solution, which moves forms online and extends the open standards-based framework, Grants.gov is improving efficiencies, decreasing costs and achieving regulatory compliance.

Government Computer News Agency Awards

Government Computer News (GCN) honors 10 government agencies each year for innovative information technology accomplishments. The awards are conferred on government organizations with a demonstrated record of excellence in applying IT to further the aims of electronic government, improving the efficiency or effectiveness of a department, agency or bureau in delivering its mission or solving a significant or long-standing problem in a measurable and sustained way.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) won a 2004 Government Computer News Agency Award for the Grants.gov program. Chosen out of a field of 116 entries, HHS is one of the 10 government agencies honored for its innovative IT accomplishments in streamlining the federal grants management process of finding and applying for grants through one unified cross-agency website. As a trend-setting government IT project, Grants.gov was selected for demonstrating a record of excellence in furthering the aim of electronic government by providing substantial improvement in government-to-citizen, government-to-business, or government-to-government transactions, services, or processes.

Department of Health and Human Services - Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service
Awarded: July 14, 2004

Each spring, officials from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recognize hard work and excellence through the annual Department of Health and Human Services Honor Awards. The Grants.gov Program Management Office received the 2004 Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service from Secretary Tommy Thompson for achieving consensus among the 26 federal grant-making agencies and creating a unified Web portal to find and apply for federal grants.

NGMA Grant Community Recognition
Awarded: April 28, 2004

The mission of the National Grants Management Association (NGMA) Awards Committee is to identify and recognize the accomplishments of individuals and groups of individuals who have made a significant contribution to the body of knowledge, professionalism, policies, or operations in the federal grants administration. This year, the NGMA added a new award category, Electronic Solutions, to honor an organization which has made a substantial contribution to the automated system(s) of one or more federal agencies or Non-federal organization(s), and has had a significant and demonstrated beneficial impact on the operations and/or performance of the organization.

The NGMA presented its first annual Electronic Solutions award to Grants.gov in April, noting that the site offers inspiration by developing a simple, unified website for interactions between grant applicants and federal agencies that manage grant funds.

FOSE Showcase of Excellence Award
Awarded: March 24, 2004

Each year the Federal Leadership Council’s Showcase of Excellence (FOSE) presents a showcase of federal government IT projects representing the finest implementations of citizen-centric electronic government. From the IT programs nominated to the CFO Council, Federal Acquisition Council and the Chief Human Capital Officers Council for consideration, 10 are selected to demonstrate their program in the CIO Council Showcase of Excellence booth. Two are then chosen by the Federal Leadership Council Executive Committee to receive that year’s Showcase of Excellence Award.

Grants.gov was named one of two Showcase of Excellence E-Government winners by FOSE. The site was highlighted at their annual conference in March as an example of the finest implementations of citizen-centric electronic government.
