Tina Gargus

Special Project Coordinator

As Special Projects Coordinator, Tina supports the U.S. Institute's various program sectors on projects requiring meeting planning, budgeting and logistical coordination. One of these major projects includes the recently issued OMB-CEQ policy memorandum on environmental conflict resolution (ECR).

Additionally, Tina served as the conference coordinator for the national ECR conference held in Tucson in May 2005. The conference brought a total of 450 participants from across the country, and several internationally. Participants included government representatives, non-governmental organizations, tribal nations and members, community based groups, environmental advocates, corporate entities, resource managers and users, and professionals in the field of conflict resolution and consensus building.

One of Tina's responsibilities also included the overall operational support of the U.S. Institute's National Environmental Conflict Resolution Advisory Committee. She managed the committee's budget, website and records, and coordinated logistics for all committee and subcommittee meetings. She assisted the Designated Federal Officer with committee communications, planning and reporting and was the designated point of contact for committee related public inquiries.

Tina first joined the Institute in 1999 as the Executive Assistant to the Institute Director. In that capacity, she served as a liaison for the director to expedite the flow of information and interpret policies and procedures, both within and outside of the organization. She was instrumental in overseeing the general administrative operations of the U.S. Institute, supervised the administrative staff, and was involved in the early development of a program management database system.

Tina has several years experience providing events coordination, office management and executive support. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arizona and is a Tucson native.

Did you know...?

building Our professional staff sometimes serve as lead mediators/facilitators on projects, primarily when complex federal interagency or intergovernmental issues are involved. More often, we help the people involved assess the situation, outline a path to resolution and choose a lead mediator/facilitator or team of independent practitioners. We typically manage the contract and oversee the work of these service providers. Often the national roster or the Native Network can be used to identify the best qualified practitioners for specific cases.
