M/V MEVLUT DOVEN

Cape Henry, VA.    2008-Apr-04

NOAA SSC contacted by USCG Hampton Roads at 1430 hours, April 4, 2008. USCG reports that M/V MELVUT DOVEN, a 305 ft long bulk carrier carrying a load of solicon magnesium ore, while in transit has report a sheen coming from mid-ship. Source of sheen unknown,tank soundings have not detected location of leaking oil. As of 0930 today, vessel was located approximately 220 nmi southeast of Cape Henry, VA. Vessel was heading to Port of Baltimore. Seas 6-10 feet with 25-30 knot winds out of the southwest. Admiral Rosa requested NOAA trajectory modeling support and requested worst case scenerios at 200, 150, 100, 50, 35 and 12 nmi contours. USCG making plans to board vessel. 35nmi point is most likely location for USCG to attempt to board vessel. Sheen has been reported for past 2 days. Unknown amount of oil has been discharged.
