The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) will host the first National Beyond Translation Forum on September 15, 2008. This event is part of a continuing effort to effectively engage the Hispanic community as partners in environmental stewardship. We hope you can join us in improving the quality and availability of environmental and public health information in a manner that is relevant to the Hispanic community.
The agenda outlines the topics that will be discussed at the National Beyond Translation Forum. To attend this forum please register online

Community leaders, representatives of non-profit organizations, state and local government, small businesses, academia, health care providers, and many others.
What is Beyond Translation?
EPA is committed to developing strong and dynamic partnerships with the nation's Hispanic community. Engaging this fast-growing community is essential to the Agency's efforts to encourage all Americans to be better environmental stewards.
As part of the Agency's commitment to fostering regional collaborations with the Hispanic community, EPA is hosting a Hispanic Stakeholders Forum that will include:
- Workshops on environmental health, environmental education and economic opportunities
- Information booths
- Networking opportunities
The forum will achieve the multiple goals outlined in the National Hispanic Outreach Strategy:
- Build stronger community partnerships
- Increase awareness of economic opportunities
- Serve as an education pipeline
- Create networks for employment and professional development
Why is it important to participate?
LEARN- How to go beyond the translation of outreach materials into Spanish:
- Creative strategies, tools, and approaches - what works & what doesn't
- Effective evaluation mechanisms
INFORM - Share information on programs and priorities affecting Spanish-speaking communities.
- Topics could include:
- Outdoor & indoor air issues
- Children's health/aging/sensitive populations
- Pesticides & toxics
- Water, land, & energy issues
EMPOWER - Communities with information:
- Grants
- Contracts
- Fellowships and internships
- Other economic opportunities
