BRAC Smart Book for Commanders is now available (June 2008)

Background

On May 13, 2005 the Department of Defense recommended certain installations for closure or realignment. The BRAC Commission, an independent panel, reviewed these recommendations and made some modifications to the list before sending these recommendations to the President on September 8, 2005. The President approved the Commission’s revised list and forwarded it to Congress on September 15. Congress did not enact legislation to stop the BRAC process, and the list became official on November 9, 2005.

BRAC must be completed by September 15, 2011. The Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management (ACSIM) is the Army’s lead organization for the BRAC process. The Office of the Assistant G-1 for Civilian Personnel provides support, policy, and guidance for all human resource issues related to BRAC.

This website provides information to employees affected by BRAC and to human resource professionals at BRAC organizations. Employees can learn about job placement programs, separation incentives, and benefits and entitlements under BRAC through the Employee Service Guides. HR specialists can use the BRAC Toolkit to help plan for any personnel issues they may be facing during the BRAC process.
