Manufacturing and Technology Trade Mission to Australia

Why Australia

Australia is a very hospitable market for U.S. technology and an important Free Trade Agreement partner. The Australia-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) has enhanced our long and successful trading relationship by eliminating tariffs on most manufactured goods. Australia’s high per capita income and rising terms of trade, plus a favorable foreign exchange rate for U.S. exports, make this an excellent time to explore business opportunities Down Under.

Best prospects:

U.S. suppliers of innovative products and technologies are invited to apply for this executive-led Commerce Department trade mission, which will highlight equipment and services in industries with growing potential in Australia, including, but not limited to, the following best prospects.

Automotive: Australia’s $12 billion automotive aftermarket presents excellent opportunities for U.S. suppliers of essential parts and specialty products alike.

Construction: Imports dominate Australia’s $1.3 billion market for construction machinery, and AUSFTA has eliminated import duty on construction machinery from the United States.

Energy: Australia seeks innovative solutions to meet its energy needs and goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent on 2000 levels by 2050.

Mining: One of the world’s leading mineral exporters, Australia relies on the United States as its major supplier of mining equipment. High mineral prices continue to drive exploration.

Oil and gas: Rising demand for petroleum products is fueling the development of fields across Australia. The United States is the major supplier of pumps, valves, gauges, and related equipment. Also needed are technologies for deepwater exploration and production, coal seam methane production, drilling, process control and analysis, and operational safety.

Water resources: Australia invests an estimated $4.2 billion in water and wastewater treatment annually. Imports supply about 60 percent of the market, for which the United States is the third largest supplier.
