Detailed Forecast Discussion |
Updated Monday, September 15, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. PM10 HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE REMAINDER OF MONDAY SEPTEMBER 15th PM10 HEALTH WATCH ISSUED FOR TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 16TH A strong pressure gradient over the region has caused locally windy conditions today. The winds have gusted around 30 mph at times. The winds are causing areas of blowing dust and have resulted in elevated PM10 levels. Several of the monitoring locations have had several hourly PM10 concentrations between 300-500 ug/m3. It appears that a few of the monitoring locations may exceed the PM10 federal health standard today. Therefore a same day PM10 High Pollution Advisory (HPA) has been issued for the remainder of today. People with respiratory and/or heart ailments should limit outdoor activities today to reduce the impact of the elevated PM10 levels caused by the blowing dust. The winds will be a little weaker on Tuesday therefore the PM10 levels are expected to only reach the upper range of the moderate category. Though, a PM10 Health Watch has been issued for Tuesday as a precaution. Ozone levels should remain in the good range today. Forecaster SD. |
