Class Year Updates

2007

The First Class, having reunited for the first time since Plebe Year, has begun the final leg of our sprint towards graduation. Through Indoctrination, through Plebe Year, through Sea Year, and through academics and athletics, we have recently marked the successful completion of three years at Kings Point with our ceremonial Ring Dance. Proudly wearing our Academy rings, we have the finish line clearly in sight, and will continue to lead our Regiment and our Academy from the front, both in our spirit and in our example.

MIDN Tyler A. Stutin
First Class President

2008

The sea splits exchanged this past November, and half of our Class is currently out to sea until the end of July.  The other half of the Second Class will be aboard the Academy for the long 5 trimester haul until Graduation in June 2008.  Planning for our ceremonial Ring Dance is currently underway, and is slated for August 24th, 2007 at the Marriot Marquis in New York’s Time Square.  Our Class is also responsible for hosting this year’s Graduation Weekend June Ball, for which we have begun to prepare.  As the First Class gears up to take the Coast Guard license exams in the coming weeks, the Second Class is busy training as Petty Officers so that we may assume their role as First Classmen this coming June.

MIDN Warren Ford
Second Class President

2009

As a Third Classman at Kings Point you will soon begin to enjoy the freedoms of being an “upperclassman”. With the Plebe Life only a few months behind you, you almost find it awkward to be Sir-ed and Ma’am-ed. You soon find footings as a Team Leader for a small group of Plebes. By being a Team Leader you will get to the heart of leadership by showing compassion and firmness, being there for your team on the rough days, and working closely with your Plebes to get through their first year. As a Third Classman, the petty officer positions open up to you as well and you will be able to dangle your toes in the Regimental affairs and get a better understanding of the midshipman leadership structure. Another milestone of a Third Classman is Sea Year. When you leave after Plebe year, half of your peers will go straight out to sea while the rest will be going out in November. It is exciting to know that in just a few months we will be sailing across the oceans, learning the way of shipboard life, and really getting a feel for what it means to be a Merchant Mariner. Third Class year has so much to offer you and there is so much you can give back to the Regiment at this time.

MIDN Christine MacMillan
Third Class President

2010

The Class of 2010 is working hard to get recognized before Winter Leave by organizing spirit missions every week and knocking out recognition steps. To meet the goal, the Class of 2010 must fulfill fifteen recognition steps as well as demonstrate that they are ready to be recognized by being professional, responsible, and courteous Midshipmen of honor and integrity that will represent the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy well. They have already passed eight Plebe Knowledge Tests, created a class song, presented all seven cadets who have earned the U.S. Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medal, and they have shined the War Memorial Bell and Binnacle. The Class of 2010 is motivated and dedicated to be recognized by Winter Leave and with the leadership of Class of 2007, it will happen.
