US Airways Flight Crashes in Hudson River

Just minutes after taking off from New York's La Guardia Airport en route to Charlotte, North Carolina, a US Airways jet carrying about 150 passengers and 5 crew members plunged into the frigid Hudson River. The pilot reported engine trouble shortly before the plane went down, and there has been speculation that the plane may have hit a flock of birds which disabled one or more of the engines. Ferries and other boats converged immediately on the scene to help with the rescue effort.
