Dingell Drafting Legislation to
Prevent Future Flu Vaccine Shortages

Washington, D.C. – John D. Dingell, Ranking Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, today announced that he is working on comprehensive legislation designed to prevent future vaccine shortages.

The bill will focus on (1) guaranteeing adequate vaccine supplies, (2) providing compensation to those injured, (3) enhancing vaccine research efforts, (4) improving FDA inspection of flu vaccine manufacturing, (5) improving the FDA review process for new flu vaccines, (6) authorizing emergency vaccine allocation procedures, and (7) providing for continued monitoring and accountability.

"This will be a major undertaking, and I am confident that we can get sound bipartisan legislation done next year, regardless of the outcome of the election," said Dingell. "I look forward to working with my colleagues, health professionals, patient groups, state and federal health agencies, and industry to better protect the public."
