The following is a statement by Congressman John D. Dingell, Ranking Member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, regarding the Inspector General investigation into allegations against former Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Tom Scully:

"The Inspector General tells us that Mr. Scully threatened Mr. Foster and withheld requested information on the Medicare prescription drug legislation from Congress. I appreciate her confirmation of the facts reported on by the press. It is regrettable, though, that she allowed the Department to dictate legal conclusions regarding the Department's conduct.

"It is also regrettable that the Inspector General failed to take a hard look at the White House involvement. What did Special Assistant to the President Mr. Badger know, when did he know it, and who did he tell? It is more important than ever that the White House come clean and cooperate.

"Unfortunately, the chances of the public ever learning the whole story are dim. And, the imperial presidency sought by the Department of Justice would foreclose Congress, and the people, from getting the facts. The need for a full Congressional investigation is clearer than ever."
