Monday, September 8

  • Congressman Yarmuth returns to Washington to consider a comprehensive energy package that will incorporate a number of immediate and long term measures to lower gas prices and move toward energy independence and No Child Left Inside, which Congressman Yarmuth cosponsored to improve environmental education at the primary and secondary school levels.
  • 5:35 PM: Terry Meiners will do his weekly check-in with Congressman Yarmuth on 84 WHAS.
  • The day's legislation includes: S. 2450, A bill to amend the Federal Rules of Evidence to address the waiver of the attorney-client privilege and the work product doctrine; S. 2135, Child Soldiers Accountability Act; and a bill expressing the condolences of the House of Representatives on the death of the Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

Tuesday, September 9

  • Democratic Caucus meets to discuss weekly legislative business.
  • Visitors include: the International Reading Association and the Kentucky Association of Private Providers.
  • Legislation for the day includes: H.Res. 937, Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the emergency communications services provided by the American Red Cross are vital resources for military service members and their families; H.Res. 1069, Condemning the use of television programming by Hamas to indoctrinate hatred, violence, and anti-Semitism toward Israel in young Palestinian children; and H.Res. 1159, Recognizing the historical significance of the United States sloop-of-war Constellation as a surviving witness to the horrors of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and a leading participant in America's effort to end the practice.

Wednesday, September 10

  • 8:00 AM: Working Mother's magazine and Corporate Voices for Working Families will present Congressman Yarmuth with his 2008 Best of Congress Award.
  • The "Class of 2006"—the Majority Makers— will meet to discuss weekly business.
  • Speaker Pelosi will join Congressman Yarmuth for their weekly breakfast.
  • A memorial for the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones will be held in the Capitol.
  • Congressman Yarmuth will commemorate Honor Flight, which will bring several of Louisville's World War II veterans to Washington to visit the memorials erected in their honor.
  • 2:00 PM: Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs hearing: Oversight Hearing on Sexual Assault in the Military – Part 2.
  • Freshman Representatives will meet to discuss topics for their weekly Special Order Hour of statements on the House floor.
  • The House will consider H.R. 1527, Rural Veterans Access to Care Act; S. 2617, Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2008; the Veterans' Construction and Extensions Act of 2008; and H.R. 6630, To prohibit the Secretary of Transportation from granting authority to motor carriers domiciled in Mexico.

Thursday, September 11

  • Congress will honor the memories of those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001, commemorate the actions and bravery of the day's many heroes, and celebrate the resilience of the American people that was displayed in the aftermath.
  • 10:00 AM: Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee hearing: Examining the Role of Museums and Libraries in Strengthening Communities.
  • Congressman Yarmuth will join Majority Whip James Clyburn for their weekly meeting.
  • Visitors include: the Kentucky Credit Union League, Paducha Area Chamber of Commerce, and Kentucky members of the United Fresh Produce Association.
  • The House will consider a resolution recognizing September 11 as a day of remembrance, extending sympathies to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and their families, honoring the heroic actions of our nation's first responders and Armed Forces, and reaffirming the commitment to defending the people of the United States against any and all future challenges.
  • H.R. 6513, Securities Act of 2008, which will increase the enforcement capabilities of the Security Exchange Commission.

Friday, September 12

  • 9:10 AM: Francene will do her weekly check-in with Congressman Yarmuth on 84 WHAS.
  • The House will consider H.R. 3036, No Child Left Inside Act of 2008 and a comprehensive energy package.
