BONO MACK RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FROM NATIONAL FARMERS UNION
Honored for her outstanding leadership to ensure country-of-origin labeling and to meet the needs of rural communities

Washington, Sep 10 - Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today received the Golden Triangle Award from the National Farmers Union (NFU) for spearheading the effort to ensure consumers know the country-of-origin of their fresh fruits and vegetables and also for her attention to issues affecting rural communities in California’s 45th District.

“Agriculture is a staple of our local economy,” said Bono Mack. “I am honored to have received this award from the National Farmers Union, and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of our rural communities.”

“We are pleased to recognize Congresswoman Bono Mack with the Golden Triangle Award for her commitment to addressing the challenges we face in rural America, in particular, her efforts to ensure mandatory country-of-origin labeling would be implemented. I thank her for her leadership,” NFU President Tom Buis said.

The annual Golden Triangle Award is NFU’s highest legislative honor and is presented to Members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues relevant to America's family farmers, ranchers and rural communities. Bono Mack received this honor for her sponsorship and ongoing support of mandatory country-of-origin labeling (C.O.O.L.) and collaborative efforts that benefit rural communities in California’s 45th District.

“I have long fought to ensure that consumers know where their food comes from,” said Bono Mack. “Mandatory country-of-origin labeling helps Americans make fully informed decisions about the fresh fruits and vegetables they buy and helps support our local growers.”

Congresswoman Bono Mack has been a leader in the fight for mandatory country-of-origin-labeling since being elected to Congress. Bono Mack´s C.O.O.L. provision was passed in 2002 and finally enacted with the passage of the 2008 Farm Bill.
