Rogers: ARC, State Funds Approved for Menifee County Medical Facility
Monday, September 15, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $500,000 to Menifee County for a new health department building expected to improve and expand medical access for an estimated 1,900 patients each year. The new facility will provide a much-needed replacement to the current 1,800-square-foot building to include a clinic and lab, offices and storage space.
Rogers: Funds Approved for Breathitt County Medical Facility
Friday, September 12, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $500,000 to the Breathitt County Board of Health for a new health department building in Jackson. The project is expected to expand medical access for an additional 700 patients each year. The new 19,450 square foot facility will provide a much-needed replacement to the current 92-year-old building, to include a modern clinic and lab, health education facilities, staff offices and storage space.
Rogers Lauds Passage of Highway Trust Fund Legislation
Friday, September 12, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) voted in favor of legislation today to immediately remedy looming budget shortfalls in the Highway Trust Fund (HTF), which relies on federal fuel taxes to fund vital federal highway projects around the country. The legislation, passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, makes an additional $8 billion available for the Fund to ensure its solvency in the short-term. President Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law shortly.
9.12.08 Rogers: MSU ‘GEAR UP’ Student Assistance Program to Receive $1,684,000
Friday, September 12, 2008 - U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that Morehead State University (MSU) Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy (IRAPP) will receive a $1,684,000 federal grant to help disadvantaged middle and high school students and parents prepare for the college experience and offer additional tutoring in the areas of science and mathematics. MSU IRAPP will operate as the facilitator for the six-county East Kentucky Regional GEAR UP project.
Rogers Announces Over $250,000 for Small Business Development Centers
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $251,848 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to Morehead State University (MSU). This funding will be used to enable the University’s East Kentucky Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) in Morehead, Ashland and Pikeville, to continue providing business resources to stimulate the economy and spur job growth in southern and eastern Kentucky.
Rogers Announces Water Treatment Funding for Perry County
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $500,000 to the Perry County Sanitation District for sewer system rehabilitation that will reduce the risk of wastewater overflows into the North Fork of the Kentucky River. Combined with a $470,000 grant and loan package from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development program, the project is projected to cost approximately $970,000 in total.
9.10.08 Rogers: ARC Education Funds Headed for Kentucky Rural Literacy Program
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Save the Children Foundation, Inc. will receive $1 million from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and state sources for the Kentucky Rural Literacy Program. These grants will provide an estimated 1,500 children in economically distressed communities with access to after-school and summertime activities aimed at improving vital reading skills.
Kentucky Highlands Business Innovator Training Funds Approved
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $261,475 Rural Community Development Initiative grant to the Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation (KHIC) of London and Technology 2020 (Tech 2020) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The funds will be used to establish a regional program to assist and train entrepreneurs with product ideas geared toward energy and homeland security solutions.
Rogers: Over $8.5 million to Lead Rural Domestic Security Training Program Going to EKU
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will award a grant to Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) of $8,549,200 to continue to lead the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC). The Consortium is a nationwide rural training initiative enabling emergency responders in rural areas to access comprehensive homeland security training programs and fill critical security gaps. EKU serves as the lead institution of a group of colleges across the nation providing critical training courses for rural first responders and other emergency response stakeholders. The RDPC partners closely with rural law enforcement training efforts underway at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Kentucky.
Rogers: Funds Awarded to Construct Energy Efficiency Homes in McCreary County
Monday, September 08, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding $300,000 to the McCreary County Community Housing Development Corporation (McCHDO) in Whitley City, Ky. for the construction of eight new, energy-efficient homes in the area, as well as 30 minor rehabilitation projects for elderly and disabled owner occupied houses. Partnering with the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship and the Pine Knot Job Corps, McCHDO will utilize this funding to assist homeowners whose income is at or below 80% of the HUD area median income.
