BUYER WILL HOLD ANNUAL ACADEMY DAY AT PURDUE
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) invites all high school juniors and seniors in Indiana’s Fourth Congressional District to attend Academy Day on Saturday, September 27, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at The Armory on the campus of Purdue University. Academy Day is a chance for high school students to speak to representatives, including current cadets/midshipmen and academy liaisons, of the nation’s four service academies—United States Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval academies.
ENERGY STILL TOP PRIORITY FOR BUYER
Washington, D.C.—Today Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) introduced the Department of Veterans Affairs Energy Sustainability Act of 2008, H.R. 6937, to improve the energy and water efficiencies and conservation throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs and for the betterment of a nation. Real energy solutions are needed to pull America away from our dependence on foreign oil, prepare us for new energy alternatives, and lower utility costs. Congressman Buyer, Ranking Republican Member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, understands the strains of what high energy prices are placing on Hoosiers and veterans.
1,700 JOBS AND GROWING;
Washington, D.C.—In less then two weeks away is Congressman Steve Buyer and State Senators Phil Boots and Brandt Hershman will host the Hoosier Job Fair on September, 29. This will be the eighth Hoosier Job Fair for Congressman Buyer and to date 72 businesses are offering 1,700 jobs to Hoosiers at the Frankfort Armory.
AMERICA'S ENERGY DEPENDENCE BILL;
Washington, D.C.—The moratorium on drilling for oil in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) is set to expire on September 30, which will open the pathway for drilling. Democrats in Congress, who largely oppose opening new areas for drilling, voted overwhelmingly for a bill in the House of Representatives to restrict drilling.
