Sen. Hutchison Releases Statement on the Resignation of Under Secretary of State Karen Hughes
Secretary Rice Announced Hughes Will Leave at the End of the Year

WASHINGTON -- Texas’ senior Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) released the following statement on today’s announcement that Under Secretary of State Karen Hughes will leave government service at the end of this year:

“I have known my friend Karen Hughes for almost twenty years. Karen has served ably and honorably at the highest levels of government, both in Texas and now in Washington, D.C.

“Karen has committed herself to long hours, grueling international travel, and the worthy goal of improving our country’s image abroad.

“I wish Karen, Jerry, and their son Robert the best as she moves back home to Texas.”
