Sen. Hutchison Announces Over $100,000 in Texas Reading Grants 9 Texas Communities Will Receive Funds to Encourage Literary Reading
WASHINGTON -- Texas’ senior Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today announced that nine Texas communities have been awarded a total of $103,500 in grants by the National Endowment for the Arts “Big Read” project to encourage children in all age groups to read more great literature.
“Our children should experience the great works of literature,” Sen. Hutchison said. “This funding will help communities make the classics available to a new generation of readers.”
The following organizations will receive funding:

Galveston | Rosenberg Library/Galveston County Reads | $5,000 |

According to the National Endowment for the Arts, the funding will be used to conduct local “Big Read” programs. Communities will also be provided with free support materials such as teachers guides, audio book introductions and a comprehensive Web site.
