Sen. Hutchison Applauds Confirmation of Judge Jennifer Elrod to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals
‘Outstanding Jurist’ will be an excellent addition to the court
WASHINGTON -- Texas’ senior Senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), today applauded the confirmation of Judge Jennifer Elrod to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by the U.S. Senate. The fifth circuit includes the states of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
“Jennifer Elrod is an outstanding jurist and will be an excellent addition to the 5th Circuit Court,” Sen. Hutchison said. “I am pleased that the Senate recognized her keen intellect and distinguished record of service, and confirmed her to this position in a timely manner.”
Sen. Hutchison introduced Judge Elrod to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on July 19, following the judge’s nomination by President Bush.
Jennifer Elrod has presided as a judge in the 190th District Court in Houston since March 2002. During that time, she has presided over more than 150 jury and non-jury trials, disposed of over 2,500 cases and currently manages a docket of over 1,000 cases. She leads all Harris County civil district judges in the number of jury cases tried to verdict since 2005. Judge Elrod previously practiced as a litigator at Baker Botts, LLP and served as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Sim Lake in the Southern District of Texas.
Judge Elrod received her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 1992. At Harvard, she served as the Senior Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. Judge Elrod received her B.A. in Economics from Baylor University, graduating magna cum laude with distinction in 1988. She was born in Port Arthur, TX and currently resides in Houston.
