Sen. Hutchison Announces Nearly $1 Million in Research Grants for Houston Area Universities
WASHINGTON -- Texas’ senior Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today announced that two research grants totaling $936,785 have been awarded to Rice University and The University of Houston by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
“The University of Houston and Rice University are both leaders in scientific research, and I am pleased to announce these funds to support their efforts,” Sen. Hutchison said.
The grants will go to support the following projects:
· $438,788 for a project entitled "RI: Robot Planning and Coordination under Physical Constraints," under the direction of Professor Lydia Kavraki. Dr. Kavraki is the Noah Harding Professor of Computer Science and is also a Professor of Bioengineering at Rice University
· $497,997 for a project entitled “RET Site at the University of Houston: ‘Innovations in Nanotechnology,’” under the direction of Professor Frank Claydon. Dr. Claydon is professor and chair of the UH Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
