Sen. Hutchison Attends 20th Anniversary of the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport
Embarks on Three Day, 16 Stop, 600 Mile Bus Tour to Meet with Gulf Coast Texans

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R–TX), Texas’ senior senator, today met with constituents, members of the business community, and local officials at an event hosted by the Rockport Chamber of Commerce.

“I was pleased to meet with Texans from Aransas County today to update them on what I’ve been doing in Washington to address the issues that are important to them,” said Sen. Hutchison. “As I travel to Rockport and other communities this month, I am most interested in hearing directly from Texans so I may better represent them in the Senate.”

Sen. Hutchison provided a legislative update to 100 people on issues, including taxes, the economy, and energy. Also in attendance were Rockport Mayor Todd Pearson, Fulton Mayor Russell Cole, Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal, County Commissioner Fred Nardini, City Councilman Stewart Wilson and Aransas County Judge Burt Mills.

Today, Sen. Hutchison kicked off her three day, 600 mile bus tour, which includes 16 stops throughout South Texas and the Gulf Coast. Sen. Hutchison launched the tour this morning in Harlingen and will bring the trip to a close with an event at the San Jacinto Memorial in LaPorte on Wednesday.

Sen. Hutchison sent two letters to President Bush after Hurricane Dolly, in support of the State’s request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration in affected counties for Public Assistance and Individual Assistance, as well as a waiver of the mandatory Preliminary Disaster Assessments done by FEMA.

Sen. Hutchison is a member of the Senate Republican Leadership as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and is Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.
