Sen. Hutchison Gives Legislative Update at Raymondville Chamber of Commerce Coffee
Embarks on Three Day, 16 Stop, 600 Mile Bus Tour to Meet with Gulf Coast Texans

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R–TX), Texas’ senior Senator, today met with constituents, members of the business community, and local officials at an event hosted by the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce.

“I was pleased to meet with Texans from Willacy County today to update them on what I’ve been doing in Washington to address the issues that are important to them,” said Sen. Hutchison. “As I travel to Raymondville and other communities this month, I am most interested in hearing directly from Texans so I may better represent them in the Senate.”

Sen. Hutchison provided a legislative update to 65 people on issues, including taxes, the economy, and energy. Also in attendance were Raymondville Mayor Orlando Correa, Willacy County Interim Judge Emilio Vera and Lyford Mayor Rodolfo Saldana.

Today, Sen. Hutchison kicked off her three day, 600 mile bus tour, which includes 16 stops throughout South Texas and the Gulf Coast. Sen. Hutchison launched the tour this morning in Harlingen and will bring the trip to a close with an event at the San Jacinto Memorial in LaPorte on Wednesday.

Since Fiscal Year 2001, Sen. Hutchison has helped secure $4.25 million for the Raymondville Drain project. These funds will be used for final planning studies, design and construction documents for the development and construction of a regional flood control system from Hidalgo County to Willacy County and outfalling to the Laguna Madre in the Gulf of Mexico.

Sen. Hutchison sent two letters to President Bush after Hurricane Dolly, in support of the State’s request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration in affected counties for Public Assistance and Individual Assistance, as well as a waiver of the mandatory Preliminary Disaster Assessments done by FEMA.

Sen. Hutchison is a member of the Senate Republican Leadership as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and is Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.
