Sen. Hutchison Commends Energy Department Decision to Halt Deposits to Strategic Petroleum Reserve
Sen. Hutchison Urged Halt of Deliveries April 29; Congress Passed Legislation this Week

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, today commended a decision by the U.S. Department of Energy to discontinue deposits into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) for the rest of this year.

“This announcement by the administration is encouraging,” said Sen. Hutchison. “This is a small step, but an important one. Now Congress needs to follow-up on this initiative by the administration by passing legislation that will further increase supply. We have resources in our country that have not been developed due to the inaction of Congress and the American people expect leadership during this economic downtown.”

On April 29, Sen. Hutchison sent a letter (signed by 13 other Senators) to the President urging him to halt deposits.
