Washington, Aug 1 - After Speaker Pelosi called it quits on the House floor to break for a five-week recess, Congressman John Carter (TX-31), joined by a handful of Republicans, remained on the House floor to call on Democrats to return to Washington to bring down gas prices.
“This is a historic day in Washington.  Speaker Pelosi has dropped the gavel and turned out the lights on Congress without allowing a vote on an energy bill that will bring down gas prices.  Republicans are still here.  We have not left for a five-week vacation, because we believe that the American people shouldn’t have to wait any longer to see lower prices at the pump.
“Americans have already given up their summer vacations because they can’t afford higher gas prices, and I believe Congress should do the same.  Speaker Pelosi needs to call this House back into session so we can vote on the American Energy bill and get Americans the relief they deserve.”
The debate could go on late into the night.
