WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Capps announced today a Transitional Housing Grant of $250,000 for the Women’s Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County. The Women’s Shelter Program plays a crucial role in providing safe housing for one of our most vulnerable populations: women and children survivors of domestic violence.
“It takes incredible courage and strength to escape domestic violence and we are fortunate to have the Women’s Shelter in our community for those who feel caught in that trap,” said Capps. “It provides women in need, and often their children, with a safe place, counseling and a road to a new life. The entire community benefits from the selfless work and tireless commitment by the people of the Women’s Shelter and I am proud to support its work to nurture the hope and confidence that transforms lives.”
The Women’s Shelter Program operates the only transitional housing service for survivors of domestic violence in the county of San Luis Obispo. These grant funds will go towards expanding their transitional housing stock, subsidizing childcare, and providing counseling and self-defense classes.
