Brownback Introduces Resolution Welcoming Pope Benedict to United States

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today introduced a Senate resolution welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to America. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) co-sponsored the resolution.

"I am pleased to welcome Pope Benedict to the United States and to recognize the unique insights his moral and spiritual reflections bring to the world stage," said Brownback. "Pope Benedict works tirelessly for the recognition of human dignity and religious freedom around the world."

Pope Benedict today arrives in Washington, D.C. Later this week he will travel to New York City. While in the States, he is to meet with world religious leaders of all faiths. Pope Benedict's visit marks the ninth visit of a pope to the United States.
