White House Must Partner with State and Local Governments to Protect Nation Against Possible Flu Pandemic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, May 03, 2006

Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security issued the following statement in response to the White House’s announcement on their implementation plan for the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza:

“The threat of pandemic influenza is a national problem that requires a national solution. The White House must truly partner with state and local governments for the nation to be fully prepared. Simply handing out guidelines on how to they are to deal with a threat of this magnitude is not enough. It is our responsibility here in Washington to ensure that they are properly armed with the necessary staff, funding and resources they will need in order to implement these proposed guidelines.”
