Port Bill Only One Piece of Needed Security Measures

Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement regarding today’s signing by President Bush of the “Safe Port Act of 2006”:

“I am pleased that we are moving forward with port security, though I’m disappointed that we didn’t take the opportunity to do all that we could with this bill to protect our nation’s homeland. It is disturbing that prohibiting some Internet gambling was a higher priority than protecting our trains and buses,” said Rep. Thompson.
