Thompson Statement on the Fifth Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Monday, September 11, 2006

Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement in respect of the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

“Five years ago today, we rose to news of unthinkable tragedy and unimaginable pain. In the days and years since then, what was once largely sadness and anger has become uncommon valor and immeasurable strength. Today, we remember the thousands of victims of the September 11 attacks, the many more victimized by their absence, and those that have given their lives and livelihood in the name of our freedom.

“While we gather today to honor the many innocent civilians that lost their lives on 9/11, let us also pay tribute to the all too many more victims of terrorism across the world, and let us recommit our efforts toward securing the homeland and the very freedoms that terror attempts to disrupt,” said Rep. Thompson.
