Tom Allen issued the following statement on the seventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S.:

“Seven years ago, thousands of innocent Americans perished in the most devastating and horrific assault ever on our nation’s homeland.  The images of death, destruction, and terror from that day remain indelibly imprinted in our memories and the human suffering and loss, perpetually burned into our hearts.  Nor have the years erased the debt we owe to the brave first responders, including hundreds who died that day, or to the passengers on United Flight 93 who gave their lives so that others might live.

“We owe it to their memory and their sacrifice to make the changes needed to secure our homeland and defeat those who would attack it and our citizens.  On this seventh anniversary, we must renew our commitment to our national security by focusing on finally capturing Osama Bin Laden and winning the war in Afghanistan against those responsible for 9/11, Al Qaeda aided by the Taliban, who are stronger today than they were in 2001.”
